The CARS+Printing feature provides the following enhancements:

• By default, the standard text output from reports is converted to pdf format. Plain text format is also available.
• The document will be displayed by the appropriate program (Acrobat, Excel, Notepad, etc.). This allows for:
• Freely scrolling backwards and forwards in the document.
• Saving the document to your local hard disk for future reference
• Documents can be printed to any Windows-compatible printer. No special compatibilities are required.
• Similarly they can be emailed directly from the PC and covering text added using standard email methods.
• If supported by your print program Rental Agreements can be printed to PDF too. This allows for:
• More pleasant-looking rental agreement format.
• Ability to use any Windows-compatible printer.
• Ability to save a copy of each printed version of RA to local hard disk and email it upon demand.

New Client Program Required

In order to use these printing features, you must access CARS+Internet via the CARS+AbsoluteSSH client program on your local PC. This program will install alongside the existing K-95 application and there is no need to remove the K-95 programs prior to installing CARS+AbsoluteSSH. Click here to download CARS+AbsoluteSSH. After downloading is complete, open the download folder, named "Setup-CARS+Internet-Americas.zip". This is a compressed folder. Click the link at the top left to "Extract All Files". A new window will open. Click on the file named "CARS+Internet-Setup.exe". Click "OK" when prompted to update the Registry. Then click "Finish". When installation is complete, your PC will be rebooted. The installation will create a new program group named "Thermeon". After opening the Thermeon program group, click on the item named "CARS+AbsoluteSSH". By default, an icon for this program will not be installed on the PC's desktop. This can be done by right-clicking on the CARS+AbsoluteSSH item in the Thermeon program group, then from the menu that pops up, select "Send to", then select "Desktop (as shortcut)". Upon logging in for the first time with CARS+AbsoluteSSH, you will receive a warning message regarding the ssh key. Click on the button labeled "Accept and Save". You will then be prompted for your username and password. Use the same username and password as with the K-95 application.


Accessing the New Features

The features noted above are invoked by using one or more of several new "virtual" printers. The action each of these printers will invoke is described below. The programs Edit Terminal Records, Change User Environment, Change Report Printer and Change RA Printer may be used to switch to any of these printers on either a temporary (current CARS+ session only) or a permanent basis. The instructions given here assume familiarity with these programs.

Printer Name	Action
RAPDF	Converts RA to pdf format. Has ability to print corporate logo and to print RA number in barcode format. Will send print job to the RA Printer (CARS+Forms).
PRINT	Use this entry to bypass new print logic and print RA using PCL format. Sends print job to the RA Printer (CARS+Forms). Equivalent to setting the RA Printer to "/dev/tty" and the RA Printer Type to "HPLASER"
PDF	This will cause the file to be downloaded to the folder C:\CARS+tmp on the local (client) computer and automatically open in the default pdf reader (typically Acrobat) for easy viewing. From there the document can be either printed or emailed as required. Be sure to clear out the C:\CARS+tmp folder regularly.
CSV	This will cause the file to be downloaded to the folder C:\CARS+tmp on the local (client) computer and automatically open in the default CSV reader (typically Excel) for easy viewing. From there the document can be either printed or emailed as required. Be sure to clear out the C:\CARS+tmp folder regularly.
TXT	This will cause the file to be downloaded to the folder C:\CARS+tmp on the local (client) computer and automatically open in the default TXT reader (typically Notepad) for easy viewing. From there the document can be either printed or emailed as required. Be sure to clear out the C:\CARS+tmp folder regularly.

File (attachment) Names and Email "Subject" lines

File names and subject lines will have the format of:

CARS+_program_name-yyymmdd-hhmmss

where:

CARS+_program_name = the program name in CARS+. Note that this is the actual program name, not the "synonym" that can be typed at a Menu "Option:" field to access the program. A translation table can be set up to convert the program name to the actual report name, however this will make the file name and subject line longer. Contact the Thermeon Customer Support Department to have this set up.

yyymmdd = today's date expressed as a four-digit year, two-digit month, two-digit day

hhmmss = current time expressed as a two-digit hour, two-digit minute, two-digit second.

For example, a file named DRWBAL-20090709-152329.pdf would be the Drawer Balance Report run on July 09, 2009 at 15:23:29. The file is in pdf format.

User tip: If using RAPDF to print RAs, then anything else that prints to the RA Printer, such as Res Confirmations need to be changed to print to some other printer, such as the report printer. This is controlled in the program Edit Print Library Control Record.
