CARS+ provides multiple ways to offer discounts on sale-able options:
A. OPTION DISCOUNTS
Discounted LDW - This logic allows the user to define up to 2 coverages that, when sold with LDW, will cause the price of LDW to be discounted.
Quantity Discounts - This logic allows the user to set up a "stepped" discount schedule. The more items sold the greater the discount percent that is applied to all appropriate sold options.
Amount Off Option Bundles - This logic allows the user to define an Option that represents a list (a bundle) of other options. If the bundle is sold on the Option Pop-up window in RA Open, all of the options that are defined as part of the Bundle are automatically added to the transaction often at a discounted price. The discount can be defined differently for each included item and is entered as an amount per day that is subtracted from the standard retail rate. The Option Code that represents the bundle will not appear on the RA (it was used to just sell the bundle and load the resulting discounted Options).
Percentage Off Option Bundles - This Bundle logic is very similar to that of the Amount Off logic mentioned above except that the discount of the included options is set up as a single discount percent and it is applied to all of the included options equally. Each of the options included in the package will appear on the RA and will be charged at the discounted price. The Option Code that represents the bundle will not appear on the RA (it was used to just sell the bundle and load the resulting discounted Options).
B. OPTION PACKAGES
Option Packages - With the Package logic the package is priced independently of the options that are included in the package. In this case, each of the options included in the package will appear on the RA at no charge and instead the charge/revenue will appear for the Option Code that represents the package as a whole, which unlike the previous two will appear on the rental agreement.
The following chart briefly compares and contrasts the last three Bundle/Package methods:
Package Logic The Price of the Package Revenue Accounting Employee Incentives and Extra Revenue Reports Amount Off Option Bundles The price of the bundle is the sum of the discounted prices of each of the individual options that are part of the bundle. The discount is defined as a per day reduction of the daily rate of each option. Revenue is posted against each of the individual options that are part of the bundle The sale of a bundle is reported as a sale of each of the included options. Percentage Off Option Bundles The price of the bundle is the sum of the discounted prices of each of the individual options that are part of the package. The discount is defined as a percentage reduction of each individual included item. Revenue is posted against each of the individual options that are part of the package The sale of a package is reported as a sale of each of the included options. Option Packages The price of the package is entered into Edit Option Rates against the Option Code that represents the package itself. Revenue is posted against the Package itself, not the individual options that are part of the package. Package revenue is not "unbundled" for each included item. The sale of the actual package can be reported. In addition, each of the included options is also reported as "a sale". But since no revenue is attributed to the included options, sale of a package will deflate the revenue figures of the included items on many CARS+ reports. See a discussion about this topic at the end of this chapter which should be reviewed before committing to use this optional feature.
This chapter covers the set up required for each method as well as the instructions for using each method at the rental counter.
Option Set - An Option Set is a group of options created in the Edit Option Set Codes program on the Options Control Files Menu.
In this method, one or two coverages can be designated so that when they are sold with LDW, a discount is applied.
A. REQUIRED SET-UP STEPS
Page 3, Fields 13 and 14: 1st and 2nd Pkgd Cvg
These fields are used to designate which coverage(s) other than LDW will be offered at a discount. Using these fields, either a 2-coverage group or a 3-coverage group can be defined, but not both. LDW is always in the group. It is the other options that are defined here.
To offer a 2-coverage discount, in Field 13 enter the Option Code of the other coverage.
To offer a 3-coverage discount, use Fields 13 and 14 to enter the Option Codes of the other 2 coverages.
The discount amount can be applied to LDW only, or to LDW and the other coverages.
To set up the discount, enter the amount of the discount that should be applied to the LDW price on page 3 in the "Daily Disc" (daily discount) column.
B. COUNTER INSTRUCTIONS - RESERVATIONS AND RA OPEN
Option Pop-Up Window
After selling the combination of the options and exiting the Option Pop-Up window, the following message will display:
DISCOUNT LDW RATE OF $XXXX APPLIED.
(where XXXX is the amount of the discount.)
This discounted amount will be reflected in the estimate and in the Option Pop-up window if it is accessed again.
In this method, a control file is used to define the discount percentage to be applied to various options based on the number of options sold. The options qualifying for a discount are flagged in the Optional Items File.
A. REQUIRED SET-UP STEPS
This program is used to define the percentage discounts that will applied to options.
The example below:
If 2 discountable options are sold, a 10 % discount is given on both options.
If 3 discountable options are sold, a 12.5 % discount is given on all 3 options.
If 4 discountable options are sold, a 15 % discount is given on all 4 options.

(Down arrow for more Options)Like other options, enter a "C" to indicate the options that the customer wants to purchase. Upon exiting the window and doing an estimate, the discounted rate will be shown. The discounted rates will also be shown if the Option Pop-Up Window is accessed again.
User tip: Options that are already discounted by the use of Pricing Codes and Privilege Codes can still qualify for the quantity discount. The quantity discount will be given on the already discounted rate.
User tip: Although the options can be selected through the Reservations program, the discounted rates do not show in Reservations. They show only in RA Open.
1. The discounted options will be shown at their discounted rate on the RA print program, Res Charge Records, RA Charge records, and reports.
This report is designed to list RAs where a quantity discount has been sold. It provides the:

(Down arrow for more Options)To remove the purchase of the bundle, replace the "C" with an asterisk for the bundle option. The "C" will also be removed from each item in the bundle, and the discounted rates will be replaced by the regular rates.
User tip: Dependently applied options can be part of a bundle. However, in order to sell the bundle they must already have been added to the RA. For example, if the bundle includes the fee for an additional driver, the driver must already be added to the Q subwindow with the fee applied before the bundle can be sold.
Individual items sold through the bundle cannot be removed unless the whole bundle is removed. If an attempt is made to remove one of the items in the bundle, the following message will display:
OPTION IS PART OF A PACKAGE; REMOVE PACKAGE? Y/N
Enter:
Y = the entire package is de-selected.
N = keep the entire package selected
The estimate will show each of the individual items in the bundle at their discounted rate. (The 'bundle' option will not be listed.)
Bundle Cannot Be Sold
Under certain circumstances a bundle is not available for selection. When not available, the bundle will not be listed in the Option pop-up window.
The following are the various reasons why a bundle may not be available on a particular rental:In summary, the ability to sell a bundle may be limited by the Rental Rate, CDPID Privileges or a Tour Voucher. Changing any of these three data fields may make a previously selected bundle invalid. In that case, the following message will be displayed:
- One or more of the bundle options are already included in the rental rate (either by means of an included Option Set or the four Y/N coverage fields in the Rate Rules record).
- One or more of the bundle options are exempted by the rental rate.
- One or more of the bundle options are required by the rental rate (when a rate requires an option, it must be sold at the full retail rate - not a discounted bundled rate).
- One or more of the bundle options are exempted by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the bundle options are offered at no charge by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the bundle options are included in the rental rate by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the bundle options are a coverage and a CDPID privilege declares that the renter refuses all coverages.
- One or more of the bundle options are included in a tour voucher on the transaction.
SELECTED OPTION PACKAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO CONFLICT.
1. Similar to how the rate is shown in the estimate, each of the individual items in the bundle will be shown at its discounted rate on the RA print program, Res Charge Records, RA Charge records, and reports.

Like other options, enter a "C" to indicate that the customer wants to purchase the package. Each item in the package will automatically be marked with a "C", and repriced at zero reflecting the the fact that they are included, thus not able to be sold, and that they are included in the package price.C. (Down arrow for more Options)To remove the purchase of the package, replace the "C" with an asterisk for the package option. The "C" will also be removed from each item in the package, and the discounted rates will be replaced by the regular rates.
User tip: Dependently applied options can be part of a package. However, in order to sell the package they must already have been added to the RA. For example, if the package includes the fee for an additional driver, the driver must already be added to the Q subwindow with the fee applied before the package can be sold. For vehicles with special equipment charges (such as Neverlost), if the user set the flag to not charge for it, the charge will be added on if it is included in a package that is sold.
Individual items sold through the package cannot be removed unless the package is removed. If an attempt is made to remove one of the items in the package, the following message will display:
OPTION IS PART OF A PACKAGE; REMOVE PACKAGE? Y/N
Enter:
Y = the entire package is de-selected.
N = keep the entire package selected
The estimate will show each of the individual items in the package at their discounted rate. (The 'package' option will not be listed.)
Package Cannot Be Sold
Under certain circumstances a package is not available for selection. When not available, the package will not be listed in the Option pop-up window.
The following are the various reasons why a package may not be available on a particular rental:In summary, the ability to sell a package may be limited by the Rental Rate, CDPID Privileges or a Tour Voucher. Changing any of these three data fields may make a previously selected package invalid. In that case, the following message will be displayed:
- One or more of the package options are already included in the rental rate (either by means of an included Option Set or the four Y/N coverage fields in the Rate Rules record).
- One or more of the package options are exempted by the rental rate.
- One or more of the package options are required by the rental rate (when a rate requires an option, it must be sold at the full retail rate not a discounted packaged rate).
- One or more of the package options are exempted by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the package options are offered at no charge by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the package options are included in the rental rate by way of a CDPID privilege.
- One or more of the package options are a coverage and a CDPID privilege declares that the renter refuses all coverages.
- One or more of the package options are included in a tour voucher on the transaction.
SELECTED OPTION PACKAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO CONFLICT.
1. Unlike bundles, unless a programming change is made to your RA print program, each of the individual items in the package will be shown with a zero rate and zero charge on the RA print program.
2. See the following section for the impact
| Logic | The Option Code for the Bundle or Package |
The Option Codes of the included options |
Revenue |
| Bundles |
The Option Code that represents the Bundle is NOT stored visibly in the RA. The Bundle's Option Code is used as a tool to sell the individual included items at the discounted price. |
Each individual included option appears on the RA with its discounted rate. |
The revenue for each included item is calculated for that item using the discounted rate. |
| Packages |
The Option Code that represents the Bundle IS stored visibly in the RA. |
Each individual included option also appears on the RA with zero as its daily rate. This prevents the option from being sold as a separately charged item in addition to being sold as part of the package. | The revenue for the package appears for the package's Option Code. The included items all appear with zero revenue. |
