When a rental operation has more than one parking lot, and it becomes necessary to know where each vehicle is located. Examples:

• Operations serving an airport may have a limited number of parking stalls at the airport. The rest of the fleet is off-site in one or more staging lots for cleaning, prepping, and storing vehicles between rentals.
• An overflow lot may be needed when the fleet is being cycled: new vehicles arriving and old ones getting prepped for sale.
• An operation may use numbered stalls where vehicles are placed when they are ready for rental.

A. BASIC "GEOGRAPHY" TERMS OF CARS+

• Location = is a geographical site where rental transactions occur. It is recognized as a site with a unique postal mailing address from which rentals can either begin or end.
• Lot = is a parcel of land where vehicles can be parked either waiting to be rented or for processing after a rental (cleaning and servicing). Lots are related to locations. A single location can have one or more lots, or a single lot can service more than one location.
• Stall = is a named or numbered spot on a Lot where an individual vehicle can be parked. Only one vehicle can be parked in a single stall at a time. Stalls must be assigned to lots.

B. MUST ALL OF THE RECORD TYPES LISTED ABOVE BE SET UP?

Locations: CARS+ requires that at least one owned location be set up using the Edit Locations program.

Lots: Lots are NOT required to run CARS+. But they are required, when the following circumstances apply:

• If you want to use numbered stalls for parked vehicles
• If vehicles can be parked at different physical sites (parking lots) and you wish to know at which site a vehicle is currently located.
• If you wish to use the Lot Controller program which compares immediate fleet needs (reservations) to the fleet on hand.

Records must be set up in Edit Lot Numbers for the lot itself, and in Edit Lot Relationships to define which lots are associated with which locations. (A lot may serve multiple locations.)

Stalls: Numbered parking stalls are NOT required to run CARS+. But they are often related to a "ready line" (with numbered parking slots) and can be very helpful in directing a renter to their waiting vehicle.

II. USE THIS PROGRAM

This program is used to define vehicle Lots.

To access the Edit Lot Numbers program, type EDITLOT (RET) at any menu "OPTION:" field or the appropriate line number on the Location Control Files menu. The screen will then display:

Enter data as follows:

1. LOT NUMBER	Enter up to 2 alpha-numeric characters representing the Lot Number. EXAMPLE: Type 1R (RET)
2. DESCRIPTION	Enter up to 30 alphanumeric characters as a description for this lot. EXAMPLE: Type LAX READY LINE (RET)
3. LOT STALL QUANTITY	Enter up to 4 numeric characters representing the quantity of stalls in the lot. (These do not necessarily have to be numbered stalls - refer to the next field "Lot Rentable".) EXAMPLE: Type 35 (RET)
4. LOT RENTABLE (Y/N)	Indicate whether or not vehicles can be rented directly from this lot, or if it is simply a staging lot to supply other rentable lots. Enter: Y = Yes, this is a lot from which vehicles can be rented. N = No, vehicles cannot be rented directly from this lot. Vehicles must first be moved to a "rentable" lot before they can be selected for rental. EXAMPLE: Type Y (RET) User tip: When the lot is marked as 'rentable' and there is a quantity entered in the "Lot Stall Quantity" field, stall numbers must be created for that lot number in Edit Stall Numbers.
	The following 4 fields are used only for Hertz Ultimate Choice Lots logic used with CDPID numbers to direct customers to the specific "Special" zone to pick up the car.
5. UC ZONE(Y/N)	Is this lot for Ultimate Choice? (Enter "Y" for Yes or "N" for No?) EXAMPLE: PRESS (RET)
6. SHORT DESC	This feature is used in RLSGLD progrm only for a pop up display. EXAMPLE: PRESS (RET)
7. ALTERNATE DESC	This feature is used in the RA print program. EXAMPLE: PRESS (RET)
8. AVG TANK	This feature is used when no vehicle is assigned to estimate the prepaid fuel for Ultimate Choice lots. EXAMPLE: PRESS (RET)

The screen will then display:

User tip: The actual quantity of stalls for each Lot is defined here in the Lot Number record. Previously, the number of stalls in the Ready Line was defined in the field "Ready Line Size" in Edit Locations. That field continues to turns on the 'stall logic' in order to prevent more than one vehicle from being placed in a single stall when using the Make Vehicle Available program. To turn on this feature, refer to the "Ready Line Size" in Edit Locations.

To set up the following examples, records must be set up in Edit Lot Numbers to create the lot record and in Edit Lot Relationships to define which locations are served by the lots.
