Use this program to define the basic features of a data input device (such as a VDT, handheld terminal, tablet, cell phone, etc.) that is being used to access CARS+. Other devices used at the counter such as credit card swipes and sign-on-glass devices are defined in the Edit Counter Devices program.

The records in this file correspond to the "Terminal Type" field in Edit Terminal Records.

Some of the answers to the fields on this screen may require information from your device's technical or user manual. This file comes preloaded with many of the common Terminal Type records that are used with CARS+.

To access the Edit Terminal Types program, type TERMTYPE (RET) at any menu "OPTION:" field or the appropriate line number on the System Configuration menu. The screen will then display:

OPTION: __ EDIT TERMINAL TYPES

6 Message and Fkey on the same line
7 Hand Held type
8 Print On 9 Print Off

Enter data as follows:

1. TERM TYPE

Enter up to 8 alphanumeric characters to indicate the name of the type of device to be used.

EXAMPLE: Type TEKLOGIX (RET)

2. LINES

Enter the maximum number of lines that can be displayed on the device's screen. The standard VDT supports 24 lines of display.

For a Tablet, leave this field blank. (Uses the default of 25 lines)

EXAMPLE: Type 10 (RET)

3. COLUMNS

Enter the maximum number characters (columns) that can be displayed across the device's screen of lines that can be displayed on the device's screen. The standard VDT supports 80 columns of characters on the screen.

For a Tablet, leave this field blank. (Uses the default of 80 columns)

EXAMPLE: Type 20 (RET)

4. REPLACE CR
A common message within CARS+ programs is "PRESS RETURN TO CONTINUE" (a 24 character message). This field allows the user to edit this message when it displays on a terminal of this type. Enter:

Y = YES, a different message, or no message at, should be displayed on this type of device. Enter the message in the next field.

Blank = use the standard message.

For a Tablet, leave this field blank.

EXAMPLE: Type Y (RET)

5. CR LITERAL
If "Y" was entered in the previous field, enter the replacement text that should be displayed for the standard RETURN message. This field accepts up to 12 characters. Entering a "Y" in the previous field and nothing in this field will mean that no message will be displayed when a RETURN key is to be pressed.

EXAMPLE: Type (CR) (RET)

6. MESSAGE AND FKEY ON THE SAME LINE
On a standard 24 line VDT, line 24 is reserved for the Function Key prompts and line 23 is reserved for text messages that are produced within the program. That means that only 22 lines of screen space is available for program fields. On devices with smaller screens, it is possible to instruct CARS+ to display text messages on the same line as the Function Key prompts (pressing return after reading the message caused the Function Key prompts to be redisplayed). Enter:

Y = YES, messages should display on the bottom line of the screen over the Function Key prompts.

blank = Messages should continue to be displayed on the line above the Function Key prompts.

NOTE: Answering "Y" to this field for a device that displays a full 24 X 80 display will NOT free up line 23 for the program display.

For a Tablet, leave this field blank.

EXAMPLE: Type Y (RET)

7. HAND HELD TYPE
Several CARS+ programs are designed to display a smaller set of fields when run on a device with a display less than 24 X 80. RA Close, Make Vehicle Available and Physical Inventory are examples of such programs. Enter:
T = This is a Tablet

Y = YES, this device's screen is smaller than 24 X 80 and should be called in the "Hand Held" display version of the programs listed above.

Blank = use the full 24 X 80 display on this device.

EXAMPLE: Y (RET)

8. PRINT ON
Enter the control codes required by the device to turn on transparent printing. Most devices today are made to support the ANSI standards. For those devices the values are:
1B
5B
35
69
9. PRINT OFF
Enter the control codes required by the device to turn off transparent printing. Most devices today are made to support the ANSI standards. For those devices the values are:
1B
5B
34
69
