I. INTRODUCTION

CARS+ provides the ability for multiple options to be bundled together in a discounted package. This chapter provides the user with instructions on how to set up and use options bundles.

II. DEFINITIONS

Option Set - An Option Set is a group of options which can be designated as the included items in a discounted option bundle.

III. REQUIRED SET-UP STEPS

A. EDIT OPTION SET CODES

This program is used to create groups of options that will make up the option bundle.

The Option Set Codes screen below shows an options set with the code "PKG" which is made up of the three coverages LDW, SLI and PAI.

OPTION: __ EDIT OPTION SET CODES
# *Code Item PC Eff Date Term Date CR Date/Empl Mod Date/Empl

B. EDIT OPTIONAL ITEMS

Create a new Option Code that will represent the options. An example using the Option code "BNDL" is shown below.

C. EDIT OPTION RATES

1. Create a record for the new option representing the bundle. Like any option, if the discount bundle will be offered at all locations, leave the Location Code column blank as shown below. It is not necessary to enter a rate. The only required fields are the Option Code, the Effective Date, and the Calculation Method (enter "D").
OPTION: ______________ EDIT OPTION RATES Page 1/7 TEST
# *Loc *Option Cl Primary Weekly Monthly Xday
# *Code *Code *Prv *Prc *Cu *Eff Date Mt Rate Rate Rate Rate
01 BNDL 05-01-13 D

2. For the options in the bundle, enter the discount that will apply when the bundle is purchased. The discount is entered in the Daily Discount column on page 3. It is not necessary to discount each item.

User tip: If there are multiple records for an option because of Pricing Codes, (such as LDW shown below) enter the discount for each one.
OPTION: ______________ EDIT OPTION RATES Page 3/7 TEST
# *Loc *Option Edit daily Weekly Max Prem Expire
# *Code *Code *Prv *Prc *Cu *Eff Date Flg Disc Disc Amt Pct Date

14 LDW 1 03-01-13 Y 4.95
15 LDW 2 03-01-13 Y 5.95
16 PAI 01-01-12 Y 1.00
17 SLI 01-01-12 Y

In this case, the renter can save $5.95 to $6.95 per day (depending on the class of car rented - Pricing Code) by buying the coverage package rather than purchasing them each individually.

IV. COUNTER INSTRUCTIONS

A. RESERVATIONS AND RA OPEN

Option Pop-Up Window

When the pick up location can offer the option bundle, it will be the first item listed in the Option Pop-Up Window.

An example is shown below:

Select options: Current Damage Resp 5000
C=Charge *=No charge X=Included
Option C/* Rate Calc Qty Deductible
BUNDLE * 27.90 /DAY
LDW * 15.95 /DAY 500
LDW1 * 19.99 /DAY 100

PAI * 7.95 /DAY

SLI * 9.95 /DAY

Like other options, enter a "C" to indicate that the customer wants to purchase the bundle. Each item in the bundle will automatically be marked with a "C", and repriced reflecting the discount. Notice in the example below that the LDW rate is now $11.00 instead of $15.95 and PAI is now $6.95.

Select options: Current Damage Resp 5000
C=Charge *=No charge X=Included
Option C/* Rate Calc Qty Deductible
BUNDLE C 27.90 /DAY
LDW C 11.00 /DAY 500
LDW1 * 19.99 /DAY 100

PAI C 6.95 /DAY

SLI C 9.95 /DAY

To remove the purchase of the package, replace the "C" with an asterisk for the bundle option. The "C" will also be removed from each item in the bundle, and the discounted rates will be replaced by the regular rates.

Individual items sold through the package cannot be removed. If an attempt is made to remove one of the items in the bundle, the following message will display:

OPTION IS PART OF A PACKAGE; REMOVE PACKAGE? Y/N

Enter:

Y = the entire package is de-selected.

N = keep the entire package selected

The estimate will show each of the individual items in the package at their discounted rate. (The 'bundle' option will not be listed.)

B. PACKAGE CANNOT BE SOLD

Under certain circumstances a package is not available for selection. This is indicated by the "X" in the selection column.

An example is shown below:

Select options: Current Damage Resp 5000
C=Charge *=No charge X=Included
Option C/* Rate Calc Qty Deductible
BUNDLE X 27.90 /DAY
LDW * 15.95 /DAY 500
LDW1 * 19.99 /DAY 100

PAI * 7.95 /DAY

SLI X 9.95 /DAY

SKI RACK * 13.00 /DAY
MAP * 3.00 /ITM

In this case, the package is not available for selection because one of the coverages included in the package is already included in the rental rate at no extra charge (as indicated by the "X" after the SLI Option). The following are the various reasons why a package may not be available on a particular rental:

  • One or more of the package options are already included in the rental rate (either by means of an included Option Set or the four Y/N coverage fields in the Rate Rules record).
  • One or more of the package options are exempted by the rental rate.
  • One or more of the package options are required by the rental rate (when a rate requires an option, it must be sold at the full retail rate not a discounted packaged rate).
  • One or more of the package options are exempted by way of a CDPID privilege.
  • One or more of the package options are offered at no charge by way of a CDPID privilege.
  • One or more of the package options are included in the rental rate by way of a CDPID privilege.
  • One or more of the package options are a coverage and a CDPID privilege declares that the renter refuses all coverages.
  • One or more of the package options are included in a tour voucher on the transaction.
In summary, the ability to sell a package may be limited by the Rental Rate, CDPID Privileges or a Tour Voucher. Changing any of these three data fields may make a previously selected package invalid. For example adding a CDPID # which blocks coverage sales to a transaction that has previously been sold a coverage package will cause the package to automatically be removed from the rental. In that case, the following message will be displayed:

A SELECTED OPTION PACKAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO A CDPID CONFLICT.

If the conflict is due to the change of a rental rate, the following message will be displayed:

A SELECTED OPTION PACKAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO A RATE CONFLICT.

Finally, if a tour voucher is added to an RA which causes a conflict, the following message will be displayed:

A SELECTED OPTION PACKAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO A VOUCHER CONFLICT.

C. OTHER RECORDS AND REPORTS

Similar to the estimate, each of the individual items in the bundle will be shown at their discounted rate on the RA print program, Res Charge Records, RA Charge records, and reports.
