About the Vehicle Bar Code Sticker
The vehicle bar code stickers printed by Hertz Corporate have the following format:
CCCCCVVVVVVV
Where CCCCC is the 5-digit owning city and VVVVVVV is the 6-digit vehicle number plus the check digit (total 7 digits). The stickers are printed using the "Interleaved 2 0f 5" or "I2of5" encoding.
Printing Vehicle Bar Code Stickers
While it is possible to print the stickers using any compatible encoding format, it is recommended that the "I2of5" encoding be used. This will ensure compatibility with corporate vehicles and corporate stickers, especially when a corporate vehicle is at a licensee location.
Printing Vehicle Bar Code Stickers
The Hand Held Terminal (HHT) can be configured to load the RA to the screen by scanning the Hertz vehicle bar code sticker. Since this bar code contains both the owning city and vehicle number, the HHT must be configured to extract only the vehicle number from the bar code data. (The owning area number is represented by the first 5 characters, and the unit number and check digit are the last 7 characters.) This is done by editing the Terminal Record for the HHT. Field 2 of the Terminal Record (Terminal Type) must be set to TEKLOGIX2. Please refer to the chapter Edit Terminal Records for more information on editing this record. This change will cause the vehicle unit number field to accept 12 characters. The program will then examine the last seven characters and search the RA file for open RAs with that vehicle number.
