The Equinox L5300 is a combination "sign on glass" signature capture device with an integrated credit card reader. The credit card reader is capable of reading both traditional magnetic strip and the new generation EMV-compliant "chip and PIN" credit cards. Thermeon has selected this device for implementation of the Signature Capture and EMV features in CARS+.

The Equinox L5300 will need to be configured to work with CARS+. Prior to configuring the device, the following information will need to be obtained:

Additionally, Thermeon Customer Support will need to activate the Signature Capture feature in CARS+ by setting up the GVT record.


Please follow the steps below to configure the Equinox L5300 for use with CARS+. Each indent level below corresponds with a menu level in the Equinox setup screens.

  1. Connect the Equinox device to the local network using a an ethernet cable. Connect the power supply to the device and wait for it to boot up. The device will be ready to configure when the "Lane Closed" message appears on the screen.
  2. Use the attached stylus to make all entries.
  3. Enter Setup Mode by tapping in the upper left corner of the screen, then the upper right corner, and then the upper left corner again (left - right - left). A new screen will display which says "Please enter Setup Screen password".
  4. The default password is "multilane" (without the quotes). Enter "multilane" and tap the "Enter" box.
  5. Tap "Setup".
    1. Tap "App Mode".
      1. Ensure that "FPE" is selected. If not, tap "FPE", then tap "Apply Now".
      2. Tap "Exit".
    2. Tap "ECR Port".
      1. Tap "TCP/IP Client", then tap ">>".
      2. Enter the IP address supplied by Thermeon Customer Support or your System Administrator. The IP address is entered as follows:
        1. On the line labeled "IP Address", tap the leftmost box of the four boxes (which represents the first "octet" of the IP address).
        2. Tap "Clear". Any existing number in that box will clear.
        3. Use either the on-screen number pad or the physical number pad to enter the first octet of the supplied IP address.
        4. Repeat steps b through d above for the remaining three boxes (octets).
      3. Enter the Port number supplied by Thermeon Customer Support or your System Administrator. The process is the same as for the IP Address above.
      4. Thermeon Customer Support or you System Administrator will provide instructions as to whether or not the "Use SSL" box should be checked. Typically it will not be checked.
      5. Tap "Apply Now".
    1. Tap "Network".
      1. Ensure "Ethernet" is selected and tap ">>".
        1. The settings on this screen are not controlled by Thermeon and will need to be appropriate for your local network. Follow the instructions provided by your System Administrator. Typically "Use DHCP" will be selected. If that is the case, no other entries need be made. If DHCP is not used, enter the IP, Subnet and Router information supplied by your System Administrator.
      2. When finished, tap "Apply Now".
    2. Tap "Ext PIN Pad".
      1. Ensure "N/A" is selected.
      2. Tap "Exit" (no changes) or "Apply Now" if changes were made.
    3. Tap "HTTP Diagn".
      1. Ensure that the IP Address field is clear.
      2. Tap "Exit" or "Apply Now" as appropriate.
    4. Tap "HTMS Conn".
      1. Ensure that the "Allow HTMS Connection" box is clear.
      2. Tap "Exit" or "Apply Now" as appropriate.
    5. Tap "Exit".
  6. Tap "Utility".
    1. Tap "Files".
      1. Tap "Delete All".
      2. Tap "Exit".
    2. Tap "HW Conf".
      1. Write down the number shown for "HYC SN:". This number will be entered into the CARS+ Edit Counter Devices program to define the devices available for use and what the device's capabilities are.
      2. Tap "Exit".
    3. Tap "Exit".
  7. Tap "Exit".
  8. If prompted to "Reboot Now", tap "Yes".
  9. The Equinox device will be download several files. When it has finished downloading, it will display the screens provided by the CARS+ server.

Please refer to the manual chapter Overview - Signature Capture for additional CARS+ requirements and the setup steps required in CARS+. The Equinox devices should be configured first as each device's "HYC SN" will be required to be entered in CARS+.
