There are four different programs that can be used to collect data for a Physical Inventory check. The following table summaries these four programs:

SYNONYM

PROGRAM NAME

DESCRIPTION
TO COMPLETE AN INVENTORY CHECK

PHYINV

Physical Inventory

Data is collected manually, and then later by the use of this program, entered into CARS+
The program Physical Inventory Update must be run against the records entered here.

PHYUPD2

Remote Physical Inventory Update

Data is collected via a handheld device that is NOT connected to your CARS+ system. This data is later downloaded into CARS+ by the use of this program.
The program Physical Inventory Update must be run against the records entered here.

PHYINV1

One Step Physical Inventory

Data is collected via a handheld device or tablet that IS connected to your CARS+ system.
No other program needs to be run
PHYINV4
Vehicle Transponder Physical Inventory
This program relies on transponders manufactured by BrightLot which are installed in vehicles to report all units that are at the location being checked.
The program Physical Inventory Update must be run against the records entered here.

This program is another alternative to the Physical Inventory program. It is used to take a physical inventory of vehicles and inventoried equipment. This program requires the use of vehicle transponders installed in all vehicles in the fleet. For more information on the CARS+ interface to vehicle transponder systems, see the chapter Overview - Vehicle Transponder Interface.

See the notes at the end of this chapter for more details about this program.

To access the Vehicle Transponder Physical Inventory program type PHYSINV4 (RET) at any menu "OPTION:" field or the appropriate line number on the Physical Inventory menu. The screen will then display:

OPTION: __ JUMP DRIVE PHYSICAL INVENTORY M
1 Location TUS

1UPDATE 2NEXT 3ERASE 4PREV 5BACKUP 6 7HELP 8

Enter data as follows:

1. LOCATION
The user's default location is automatically entered in this field. However, the location can be changed by entering a valid Location Code of up to 6 alphanumeric characters, a Location Group Code or the word "ALL". This location designates the location where units are to be accounted for.

EXAMPLE: Press (RET)

Pressing F1 from the "OPTION" will:

Initiate a call to the transponder's host system to have all vehicles physically at the requested location (and within range of the base station) report as being physically there.

Write a record for each reporting vehicle recording the fact that it was accounted for as of the date and time F1 was pressed. These records can then be processed by the Physical Inventory Update program. NOTE: A Physical Inventory check is NOT completed until Physical Inventory Update is run against the records created here.
