Periodically rental units need re-furbishing in either be sold or reconditioned for further rental. Therefore, they must be moved to
certain locations where the sales or re-furbishing take place.
Requirements:
This chapter serves as a guide to handling these requirements.
A. EDIT STATUS CODES
Set up a Vehicle Status Code that is a "N" type (not available - see Field 3) that will be used for these units.
OPTION: __ EDIT VEHICLE STATUS CODES

B. EDIT VEHICLE HOLD CODES
Create a Hold Code that references the Status Code created in Step 1. Make the Hold Code a 'hard' type (Field 3) which prevents the unit from being used on a regular RA. It will allow the unit to be placed on a RA that is using a "rolling rate". (more on this below.)
The Hold Code can be placed on a unit when it is in any status (on rent, available, grounded, etc.) (see below)

C. EDIT RENTAL RULES/RATES
Create rates that will be used on RAs for rolling units. The "shuttle" field in on page 2 of the Rules/Rate record must have a "Y" to designate it as a shuttle rate. Shuttle rates are used when renters move a unit one-way to the refurbishment/selling destination.

A. APPLYING A HOLD CODE
Placing a hard type Hold Code on a unit prevents it from being rented (unless the rate is a designated as a rolling rate).
To apply the Hold Code, use the program Update Vehicle Hold Code (shorcut is UPDHOLD).
OPTION: ______________ UPDATE VEHICLE HOLD CODE
1 Vehicle RV1234 R905EH
Make 4WIN Model 28A Model Year 9

The Hold Code can be placed on a unit when it is in any status.
1. Unit is On Rent or on a NonRev:
When the current RA or NonRev closes, the status of the vehicle will be changed to the status referenced in the Hold Code record. (In this example, status "F".)
2. Unit is in an "Available" type status
When the Hold Code is saved, the status will be changed immediately to the status referenced in the Hold Code record. (In this example, status "F".)
3. Unit is in a "Not Available" status
The Hold Code will be applied, but the status of the vehicle will not change.
B. RENTING A UNIT ON A ROLLING RAA Hold Code creates an automatic history record, Service Code 97, on the unit.
User tip: To apply the same Hold Code to multiple vehicles at a time based on make, model year, odometer, location etc. use the Mass Apply of Hold Code program.
Open the RA as normal using a rate designated as a 'shuttle' rate. The vehicle status will be changed to "O" (on rent), and unit and the RA commitment will be counted on the Res/Operating Fleet Reports.
Close the RA as normal. The Hold Code will remain on the unit (if it was applied earlier) and the status of the vehicle will be changed to the status referenced in the Hold Code record. (In this example, status "F".) Since the status is a 'not-available' type status, the unit will drop off the rentable unit count on the Res/Operating Fleet Reports.
Note that it is not necessary to have a Hold Code on the unit. In fact, any unit can be rented using a shuttle rate.
C. REMOVING THE HOLD CODE
When the unit is ready to re-enter the fleet, the Hold Code must be removed. To remove the Hold Code, use the program Update Vehicle Hold Code (shorcut is UPDHOLD)..
