A customer may want to make a reservation at a location that is already fully booked for the class of vehicle requested. Sometimes an alternative class may be acceptable. If not, rather than turning the customer away, alternative locations can be offered.

Use this program to define a list of alternative locations that can be offered. When the requested class is available at one or more of the alternative locations, a pop-up window listing them will automatically appear in the Reservations program. The user can then offer these other locations to the customer.

User tip: The alternate location logic is used when the user's User Access File record does not allow overbooking. (When the user is allowed to overbook, there is no need to offer an alternative location.)

To access the Edit Alternate Locations program, type EDITALTL (RET) at any menu "OPTION" field or the appropriate line number on the Location Control Files Menu. The screen will then display:

Enter data as follows:

1. LOC CODE

Enter up to 6 alphanumeric characters representing the location code.

EXAMPLE: Type TUS (RET).

2. ALT LOC1

Enter up to 6 alphanumeric characters representing the first location code.

EXAMPLE: Type SNA (RET).

3. MILES

For reference purposes, enter the number of miles it is from the location enter in Field 1 to the location entered in Field 2. This field is not required.

EXAMPLE: Type 5 (RET)

Enter any other locations that can be offered as an alternative to the location entered in Field 1.
Note that the locations will be shown in a pop-up window on the Reservations screen in the order they are listed in this record.
