Following are instructions for setting up a new GL account. There are 2 sections:
A. Customer who not NOT use RealWorld General Ledger
B. Customers who use RealWorld General Ledger
A. Customers who do NOT use RealWorld General Ledger:
Add the account to the Valid GL File.
To access the Edit Valid GL Account File type EDITVAL (RET) at any CARS+ menu "OPTION:" field or the appropriate number on the Accounting Control Files Menu. The screen will then display:

B. Customers using RealWorld General Ledger:
The steps listed below should be followed to add a new G/L account. Please refer to the applicable chapters in the RealWorld General Ledger manual for detailed directions concerning the programs. Note that the account needs to be added to BOTH the Chart of Accounts AND the Valid GL File.
1. In RealWorld General Ledger, create
the account in Maintain Chart of Accounts. (Add accounts)
2. Add the account to the Valid GL File. This can be done using either of the following methods:
a. In CARS+, access Edit Valid GL Account File to add it. (Shortcut EDITVAL)
b. In the RealWorld General Ledger Menu, press "F2 " for more selections to access the second page of the menu.
Then select: Set Up ProceduresThen select: Set up Accounts
Then select: Set up Valid G/L Accounts File from the Chart of AccountsThis will copy the new account into the Valid G/L File.
3. Add the new account to the Financial Statement Layout(s).
From the RealWorld General Ledger Menu, select:
Maintain Financial Statement Layouts (Change/Inquire layouts)
Bring up the layout for the financial statement where the account should be added. Insert the new account between the applicable sequence numbers.
Note: Depending on the financial statements and schedules used, the account may need to be added to more than one layout.
