Class Codes are one of the key data elements in CARS+. Reservations are made by Class, future utilization is tracked by Class, prices differ by Class, and these are just a few of the examples. Once CARS+ is set up and running, a change to an existing Class Code can throw this data "out of balance". As a result, Class Codes are a protected field in many CARS+ programs. For example, changing the Class Code on a vehicle from ECMN to ECAR may make the vehicle un-rentable if there are no rates defined for the new Class ECAR.

But there are situations where changing the Class Codes on existing vehicles is required. These situations may include:
  1. Changing affiliation with a different rent-a-car brand.
  2. Adding a new model to the fleet that requires existing units to be re-Classed.
  3. Re-classify existing units to remain competitive in the local market
This chapter describes a feature within CARS+ that can be used to do the following:

Enter data as follows:


1. PROCESS RATE RECORDS

Enter

Y = Yes, include the rate records when making the update include the rate class on RAs and Reservations.

N = No, do not include rate records. Therefore, no conversions are made to:

  • RATE file records
  • DEPPAY records (for insurance vouchers)
  • VCHVAL records
  • Upsell records
  • And the rate class on any RA or Reservation will not be changed.

EXAMPLE: Type Y (RET)

User tip: If changing the class on a model code, this field must be set to "N".

2. FROM CLASS

Enter the class to change from.

EXAMPLE: Type C (RET)

3. TO CLASS

Enter the class to change to.

EXAMPLE: Type YC (RET)

4. CURRENT RECORDS ONLY Y/N

Enter:

Y = Change only the records that are future oriented. Historic RAs and reservations are not changed. Many control files records are left unchanged, and new records are added.

N = Change all records. All references to the "From Class" are deleted from all files. This provides the advantage of being able to run historical reports, such as Revenue Analysis, by Class when run for a period that spans when the class change was done.

5. MODEL YEAR
 If a model code needs to be changed from one class to another, enter the model year in this field and the model code in the next field. See the details in the next field.

6. MODEL CODE
 If a model code needs to be changed from one class to another, enter the model year in the field above and the model code in this field. When a model code is being changed, NO conversions are made to:
  • Class Code records
  • Reservation records
  • Customer records
  • DBRSUM records
  • Rate capacity records (RTEFUT and RTECAP)
  • Length of rental control records (RATCTL)
  • FLTSUM records
  • FUTADJ records
