Use this program to:

A pop-up window is used in the Reservation, RA Open and RA Close screens to present the possible options that can be selected for sale to the renter. Options are by default displayed in one of the following four possible sorts:

These four default sorts can be customized by using this program, except packages which will always appear first.

To access the program, type OPTSORT (RET) at any menu "OPTION:"field or the appropriate number on the Options Control File Menu. The screen will then display:

Enter Data As Follows:

RECORD TYPE

As mentioned above, CARS+ supports four different Option Sorts: Open, Close, Wholesale and Insurance. Enter one of the four Sort Type codes listed below to edit that sort (if no record exists for a Sort Type, the default sort described above is used).

O = Open and Reservation sort

C = RA Close sort

W = Wholesale Voucher sort

I = Insurance Replacement Voucher sort

EXAMPLE: Type O (RET)

NUMBERED FIELDS

The remaining fields on the screen are used for entering instructions as to the order that options are to be displayed within that sort type. Two types of instructions can be entered:

1. Individual Option Codes: Enter individual Option Codes in the order in which they should appear. For example, if the Option LDW should be the first option listed, enter that Option Code on line one.

For the two voucher sorts, the code that must be used for voucher paid Pre-paid Fuel is "FPO" (this code is meaningless on the Open and Close sort. For those situations, pre-paid fuel is sold by a field on the Main Window of RA Open not the pop-up).

2. Option Package Codes. NOTE: Packages always appear at the top of the Sort, regardless of where they are entered in this program.

3. Option Type Codes: Rather than entering each individual option, Options can be sorted by their Option Type. For example, all "L" Type options (LDWs) can be listed first followed by all "C" Type options (all other coverages). To sort by Type enter the following "TYPE=x" where "x" is the Type Code (example: TYPE=L).

The Type Codes are:

  • L = Limited Damage Waiver options
  • C = all other coverages
  • D = drop charges
  • T = Tax
  • t = Tax type options
  • f = Federal taxes
  • O = Optional charges
  • M = Miscellaneous charges

These two instructions can be combined within a single record, as illustrated below.

EXAMPLE: Type LDW (RET)

Notes on the above illustration:

The record above is for the basic sort that will be presented in Reservation and RA Open for selling options to the renter (record type = "O"). Options will be listed in the following order:

The coverage package "CVGS".
Two levels of Limited Damage Waiver (LDW) coverage that are available.
The coverage DDW (a deduction buy down that is sold when a level of LDW is previously sold.)
All other coverages (Option Type "C" - such as PAI, PEC, SLI, etc.). Note, even though DDW is itself a C type Option it will not be listed twice (once due to Line 4 and a second time due to line 5).
Two specific "O" Type Options; GPS and Child Seat.
All other O Type options.

General Observations:

  1. When using Option Types, options within that type will appear in the order in which they were originally set up in the system.
  2. All other options that do not have specific instructions will appear at the end of the list and again they will be sorted by the order in which they were first set up within CARS+.
  3. When editing an existing record, use the following special Function Keys:

EDITS TO THESE RECORDS

Unlike other control files, this file is loaded into each user's system memory when they first enter an option pop-up and rains in their memory until they sign off. As a result, the following rules apply:

1. If the order is changed on this screen, all users must sign out of CARS+ completely and sign back in to see the new order.

2. If new Options are added to the system via Edit Optional Items, they will automatically appear at the end of the Shift/F5 Option list for all users without them having to sign off. But to have the new Option appear in a certain place in the sort order, this screen must be edited and as a result of rule #1 above, users must then sign off and back on.
